Doss_BabyThe following is a success story that Kristine and Steven Doss have graciously agreed to share with us.

In 2011, my husband and I met online after both having previous marriages. We fell in love and eventually got married after dating for three years. We were so happy to start our lives as a married couple. I have a son from my first marriage, but my new husband didn’t have any children of his own. We decided to try to have a baby and grow our new family.

But things weren’t really going quite as we had planned: we spent a whole year trying to get pregnant, and nothing happened. After feeling discouraged and frustrated, we eventually scheduled an appointment with my regular OBGYN to see what was going on. I was prescribed some medicine that I took for a while, but unfortunately, we didn’t see any change. We were feeling lost, and we weren’t sure if we’d ever be able to grow our little family.

In February of 2016, we decided to take the next step in getting some answers. We made an appointment at ART to see if they could help us. We went through a lot of testing and blood work, but we eventually determined that IUI would be the best next step for us. I was really nervous about it, but we knew we were in good hands.

We went in for the IUI, and then we waited for the results. We eventually learned that it had been unsuccessful, and that I wasn’t pregnant. We tried again, and we got the same results. I was beginning to feel defeated, but our doctors and nurses encouraged us to not give up on our dream. So we just continued taking trips to the office and doing blood work and procedures.

Then one day, I got a phone call that changed our lives forever. I started to cry as the nurse on the phone exclaimed, “Kristine, you are PREGNANT!” I was at work when I got the call and I couldn’t wait to tell my husband, so, with hands shaking, I called him and told him that he was going to be a dad! When we both got home that afternoon, we were so excited! I just couldn’t believe it was true, so I took an at-home pregnancy test just in case! I was so overwhelmed that all of our hard work and patience had finally paid off.

My pregnancy went really well – no more crazy hurdles to jump through. We continued going to ART for regular checkups until we were transferred back to my regular OBGYN to prepare for delivery. Our OBGYN decided to induce me at 39 weeks. After four and a half hours of labor, we welcomed our son, Samuel, into the world. He was perfect, weighing six pounds, ten ounces and measuring 19 and a quarter inches long.

We are so proud and couldn’t be any happier to have a happy, healthy baby boy. Without the help and support of our friends at the ART Fertility Clinic, we would not be the proud parents of our new son. We decided to share our story so that we might help inspire hope to those struggling with infertility. If there’s anyone out there considering seeking help at ART, I recommend taking the plunge. That first step of making the appointment changed our lives, in such a positive way, forever.
