Today we are eager to highlight Tammy Fillingim, Ultrasound Technologist, RDMS, BS.

Tammy graduated from the Institute of Ultrasound Diagnostics with a certificate in Diagnostic Medical Sonography in 1997 and was registered by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography in abdomen and OB/GYN in 1998. She also graduated from the University of South Alabama with a certificate in Radiologic Technology in 1992, and a Bachelor of Science in Radiology, Business, and Psychology in 1994.

She began working for ART in 2007 when she moved to Birmingham to be closer to her family. Before the move, Tammy was working part-time for a reproductive endocrinologist and several OB/GYN offices in Jackson, MS. She heard through a mutual colleague that ART was wanting to hire an ultrasound tech. “It was clearly a God thing how it all worked out at the right time. Most of my 20-year ultrasound career has been in Women’s Health OB/GYN, but I am trained in and have worked in all areas of ultrasound.  I worked as an X-ray tech for 5 years before I went back to school to do ultrasound.”

Tammy says the best part of being an ultrasound tech at ART is getting to be a part of helping patients achieve their dream of pregnancy. “I’m there with them when they start this process, I scan them during all the pills and shots and procedures, and then I get to show them their baby for the first time once they get pregnant.  It’s a very rewarding job and I love it.”

Outside of the office, Tammy spends most of her time with her two active daughters, often being a soccer mom. She also loves to watch sports that involve the University of Alabama (Roll Tide), the Dallas Cowboys, and March Madness with the University of Kentucky Wildcats and UNC Tar Heels.

Thank you, Tammy! We appreciate all that you do for ART!
